Business trip to Detroit, wherebto stay?

Downtown? Novi? Southfield?

I will be working in Farmington Hills, but prefer not to get shot. What are some good areas to stay near?

Stay in a suburb (royal oak?) but actually do shit in Detroit.

There are lots of places to stay downtown, but nothing to actually do & your commute would suck. But there is plenty to do in midtown & ferndale.

Farmington Hills != Detroit, and even if you were staying in Midtown, don't worry.

How long is this trip, what's the budget, do you plan on going out or just working, etc? Novi is a nice area, Southfield is cheaper but not much to do there. West Bloomfield is north, and very very nice.

Or Ford Field. No beatings of out of towners takes place there.
